About Me

Jess R. Gagliardi - Director of First Year Seminars

It has been a great privilege and honor having served in the faculty of Adams State University in Colorado since 2011, fulfilling a lifelong goal of being an educator.  With a love of learning and teaching, I enjoy working with students and helping them realize their academic and career goals.  I teach several themes in the First-Year Seminars, allowing me to teach a wide-range of students.  It has been a goal of mine to encourage and inspire excitement for students in their college studies.

In 2014, I had the opportunity to split my time between teaching and administration.  It all began with a special appointment conducting institutional research that blossomed into who I am currently doing.  I became a member of the President’s Cabinet in 2015, giving me a front-row seat into university governance, policy process, and helping students in other facets. I have been able to put my knowledge of strategic leadership to good use over the years, learning a great deal from my time at Louisiana State University, the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Fort Hays State University, and Texas A&M University.

Along this journey, I have expanded my interests in history of higher education, student identity development, first-generation students, first-year programs, college teaching, and college athletics.  Because I have enjoyed the world of higher education administration, I am broadening my professional background with research in these areas.

I enjoy teaching college students.  I think this is one of the best and direct ways to help students; however, I have grown to realize my work in administration also helps students and hope to continue having one foot in the classroom and another in administration in my professional career.
